Suna's Daughters, as part of the Child-Supporting Neighborhoods project, completed the first phase of the Holistic Development Teacher Training Program (HDPTP) in Antalya. This program, based on rights and scientific findings, addresses the physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional developmental needs of children from a holistic perspective. Implemented in collaboration with the Governorship of Şanlıurfa and with the support of the Şanlıurfa Provincial Directorate of National Education, the program involved 26 volunteer teachers working in Şanlıurfa.
Suna's Daughters continues its Child-Supporting Neighborhoods project, carried out in collaboration with the Şanlıurfa Governorship of the Republic of Turkey. Within this scope, the first phase of the pilot application of BÜTGEP, developed with the contributions of Suna's Daughters' School-Focused Solution Community participants – the Teacher Academy Foundation (ÖRAV), the Village Schools Change Network (KODA), the Turkish Family Health and Planning Foundation (TAPV), and independent experts Dr. Barış Sarısoy and Dr. Sanem Bülbül Hüner – has been completed.
BÜTGEP, an educational model centered on the transformative role of schools, was designed within the Child-Supporting Neighborhoods initiative as a model that touches children's lives through teachers and aims to strengthen children's well-being in the long term.
BÜTGEP, which aims to support teachers in acquiring a pedagogical approach that allows them to evaluate children in terms of their multifaceted developmental areas, focuses on five fundamental developmental areas: “child perception and rights”, “child participation and child-centered communication”, “cognitive development and learning”, “physical changes and development in adolescence”, and “social-emotional learning skills and ensuring a holistic development culture in schools”.
The topics of Perceived and Learning Children were discussed.
In the first phase of the program, which involved 26 volunteer teachers working in Şanlıurfa, the topics of "Perceived Child" and "Learning Child" were addressed. Work was carried out with the teachers on the perception of childhood, children's rights, and the integration of child participation into classroom culture; while focusing on safe, inclusive, and participatory communication approaches. The program also included opportunities for participating teachers to experience brain-based, active, and differentiated learning methods, and examples of how to apply these methods in classroom practice were shared.
The second phase, to be held in June, will focus on sustainable school practices that center on physical development and change, social-emotional learning, and children's well-being, under the headings "Growing, Changing, and Developing Children" and "Creating a Holistic Child Development Culture in Schools."
